My childhood neighbor made me a hand-drawn book filled with horses.

A most thoughtful gift forever instilled in me a love of animals & art.

I am certain my first sentence was “I want a pony.” Years later, I was given a horse of my own, and many more years later, I took her to college with me where I studied Studio Art. Nearly all of my time was spent either in the arts building or at the on campus horse barn that was situated on thousands of endless acres.

Graduation and the real world happened (boarding a horse is a mortgage payment!) and I found a great deal on a small farm in Powder Springs, GA. Our realtor was an old neighbor and when we were closing on the farm, asked if I wanted her kiln that she was never going to use. My little kiln sat around for years before I got around to taking a few refresher courses in ceramics and was brave enough to try my hand at pottery on my own. The backyard gazebo became my studio and pottery became the creative outlet I didn’t know I so badly needed.

Red Barn Pottery Farm (my initials are RB too) was born after being invited to sell my Big Chicken mugs at the Marietta Artisan Market. Today, I live on my 8 acre farm with my 2 horses, 4 sheep, 5 turkeys, and too many chickens and ducks to count. And as cliche as it is to admit, it really is the life I always dreamed of.
